This Is Forever by Tracey Emin

This Is Forever by Tracey Emin

Published in 2024 this two colour lithograph is in an edition of 100.

Like many other Emin works, this relies on both image and text. The text here reads:

“Like a cat she had many lives. None of which she had been truly loved. Her mind would flash to the times long gone and her heart and soul would follow with tears. Tears of salt that burnt as they fell. Each time she would die she would cry to her grave - Why can’t I love, Why can’t I love, Why can’t I love, Why can’t I love, Why can’t I love, Why can’t I love. “

This is Forever (2024) is part of a series of four limited edition prints which relate to and reconfigure the bronze relief portraits Tracey Emin created for the National Portrait Gallery’s new 4 metre high front doors.

Representing ‘every woman throughout time’ these portraits are a celebration of women from different walks of life, known and unknown – mothers, daughters, sisters and friends – and a contemporary response to the under-representation of women in historical art collections.
