Langlands and Bell Frozen Sky Watch
Frozen Sky (Wristwatch) 2002, by Langlands and Bell is a battery operated wristwatch with moving face/dial, aluminium case & buckle, Japanese movement, PLU strap.
The watch was created for Langlands and Bell exhibition at Pallant House Gallery and Petworth House as part of Art for All.
In pristine condition, the watch has never been worn and comes with the original box signed by the artists.
The watch face shows acronyms for airports around the world and the title comes from:
FRO - Floro, Norway
ZEN - Zenag, Papua New Guinea
SKY - Sandusky, Ohio
The watch evokes the persistent transience of contemporary urban life. Time and Space, Present and Future, Movement and Light - a poetry of places offering departures into the imaginary.
The design follows a large neon artwork of the same name from 1998 - see last image.
This watch is in the collections of the V&A, British Museum and a 1998 version as a Christmas Gift is in MOMA, New York.
This watch is supplied in a clear presentation box within a printed slip case designed and signed by the artists.
The stainless steel case-back is engraved: Frozen Sky Langlands & Bell + Edition number.
