BODIMEADE & WOODFORD

ABOUT:

Matt Bodimeade and Johnny Woodford met at  Brighton University in 1985 whilst studying Fine Art & Sculpture. College work was coupled with forestry employment which, in turn provided materials, methods and inspiration (particularly in the aftermath of the storms of 1987).

Matt’s work as an artist is even now a bi-product of his working life as forester, farm worker, builder and landscape contractor. It is a distillation of ideas and images that get collected over time spent with one’s face more often than not looking at the ground and a desire to use materials in a purely non-functional manner; a compromise not necessary in his work as an artist.

Matt Bodimeade has worked on a number of public and private commissions throughout the UK (including the Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood).

Since studying, Johnny Woodford has produced a wide range of sculpture, furniture and objects in addition to many garden specific pieces with garden designer Cleve West.

He has a reputation for producing avant garde and innovative sculpture in reclaimed wood and/or fallen trees (oak, cedar and elm).

Among his output and his many commissions are five pieces of abstract art for children to play on at Poole, Dorset; various show gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows plus numerous public and private commissions.
