YANKEL FEATHER - ARUNDEL FESTIVAL EXHIBITION 2011

We are pleased to announce that our Arundel Festival Exhibition this year will feature the work of Yankel Feather.

James Stewart, gallery director says “We had two great shows with him, in 2004 and 2005, and it was a privilege to have met and worked with an artist of his calibre and experience.”

In his long career, Yankel Feather always seemed to capture the moment of wherever he was whether it was with the Beatles in the 1960’s or the Newlyn Artists and St Ives in the 80’s.

His work also reflects this passion for the moment, they are always brimming with activity, fun and passion.

Yankel Feather died in 2009, leaving behind an enormous body of stunning work, some of which has been shown in London at the GX Gallery. In 2010 two of his paintings were acquired by the National Museum of Liverpool.

In this exhibition we will be showing a selection of his drawings, charcoals on paper, many of which have not been exhibited before and one or two paintings. Rarely has an artist had a name so pertinent to his style of painting with a deft, lightness of touch, rapid brushstrokes over a strong linear form. Feather represents the best of the Modern British figurative tradition.

A charismatic exponent of the Neo-Romantic school, and expressionist of immediate poetic lyricism. His passion and poetic sensibility are all beautifully evoked in his assured, colourful masterly paint handling.

His canvases and drawings still dance with a joyous celebration of what it is to be alive; all the assimilation of a lifetime's experience in art.

During the 1980's Yankel Feather exhibited at the Salthouse Gallery run by Bob Devereaux. Currently one of the leading lights of the St Ives artistic community and Director of St Ives Literature Festival Bob Devereux, poet, performer, artist, librettist will perform some of his and others' poems and show his watercolours in front of the Zimmer Stewart Gallery on Saturday 27 August with Anthony Frost. In a repeat of their show at the 2011 Hay Festival they will truly bring St Ives to Arundel through their paintings, poems and recollections.
