ABOUT:
Our Summer Exhibition starts this weekend, and as last year we are focussing on artists who are printmakers.
We have a series of surreal self-portrait monotypes by Phil Tyler, with new work by Betsy Dadd & Tom Hammick; Richard Walker's Dreambook series of monoprints, and Nick Bodimeade's mono's, woodcuts and etchings.
For the first time we are showing the work of three artists who are making contemporary screenprints Richard Denne, Charming Baker and Adam Koukoudakis. Charming Baker has just come back from a "sellout" painting & print show in New York and alongside Adam Koukoudakis' prints we are showing two paintings which inspired the prints (Sharpeville and Fun Run - see image right).
Many printmakers present prints as part of a 'deluxe' book and we have some of these by Jake Chapman, Paula Rego, Peter Blake, Albert Irvin, Peter Doig and Jim Dine - Do ask to see these if they are not on display when you come to the gallery.
If that were not enough, we also have two series of prints from 1969: John Walker's Headingly series of 5 screenprints and Ann Sutton's Stocking series of photo-litho prints; linocuts & sculpture from Giles Penny and Gilly Mccadden's floral screenprints.
See ZS Editions for examples of the prints to be on show.
Also.....we are pleased to be able to introduce something completely new - A World Exclusive.
Ann Sutton has produced a new way of "painting in space" and in so doing she has created her "Body Pieces" which are artworks that can be worn. From June these will only be available at the Zimmer Stewart Gallery in Arundel, before they then move to Edinburgh as part of their Festival in August.
The pieces, each of which is unique, include large pieces which can be worn over the shoulders, as shown in the adjacent image and also smaller pieces which are worn as brooches.
As Oscar Wilde said "One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art"
Throughout her fifty-year career Ann Sutton, MBE, has endeavoured to develop the use of textiles in new and exciting ways. Ann Sutton has been involved in all aspects of the field from designing for industry (for Ralph Lauren,Heals and Liberty) to consulting, writing and lecturing.
