Embarkation by Paula Rego

Embarkation by Paula Rego

Described by TG Rosenthal in his 2003 'Paula Rego - The Complete Graphic Works' book as "One of Rego's finest graphic works....a masterpiece of 20th Century etching".

This rare and sought after print is also sometimes recognised as 'Departure' by Paula Rego, which is also the title of one of her most celebrated paintings dated 1988.

As with many of Rego's works this is highly personal, having a lot to do with Portugal and imbued with feelings of Jean Rhys's 'Wide Sargasso Sea' .

This print was part of the 1992 Royal College of Art print portfolio for their Printmaking Appeal Fund. The other artists included in 1992 were Sir Terry Frost, Edoardo Paolozzi, Tim Mara, Nana Shiomi and John Bellany.
