ABOUT:
We are pleased to present a joint show by two artists whose work “objectifies” and elevates every day items: The incidental becomes the subject in these paintings and sculptures showing shoes and shirts as we have not seen them before.
Formerly a partner at city lawyers Baker Mackenzie, Richard Davidson graduated from Wimbledon Art School in 1999. Not surprisingly his work features, amongst other things, “City Objects” painted in a contemporary Pop Art style. These include formal shirts, black shoes, brief-cases and of course suits. These were his uniform for many years and now are painted with a sense of affection and reflective nostalgia.
Kaori Tatebayashi was born in Sage Japan, and studied at the Doda High School of Arts and Crafts before the Kyoto City University of Art (BA 1995, MA 1997). In 1995 she won a student scholarship to the Royal College of Art and in1999 was guest student at the Kolding Design School of Art.
Kaori makes remarkably accurate sculptures of objects we see and use every day such as tennis shoes or a shirt hanging on the wall.
