DAVID BAILEY
David Bailey, born in 1938, is one of Britain's most famous commercial photographers with a long standing global reputation. He has worked for magazines and newspapers from Vogue to the Daily Telegraph, photographing many of the key cultural figures from the worlds of fashion, pop music, literature and theatre with a simple and dramatic style.
David Bailey continues to have a successful and high profile career as a photographer and film maker. This head sculpture is a rare departure from his normal oeuvre.
The sculpture is made from fibre glass and believed to be modelled on his wife. It was created for an auction in 1999 for the benefit of Battersea Dogs Home hosted by Stephanie Hoppen at her gallery in Walton Street, London. Around the neck is a leather painted dog collar.
The head is painted in bright colours, reminiscent of make used by Bailey is some of his earlier fashion shoots.
