Barbara Macfarlane - Isle of Skye paintings Barbara Macfarlane's Isle of Skye paintings arose from two visits to the Island in May & October 2011. Her time was mostly spent walking and drawing along the north and east coast, from Staffin Bay to Talisker, taking in Coral Beach, Neist Point and Waternish.. She saw whales and seals, the clear blue sea, black rocks, white sand and moss covered hills. Both the large and small scale paintings have been well received by clients and sales beating initial expectations. As with her previous two exhibitions here, “Iceland” and “Terre Rouge”, these paintings provided Barbara Macfarlane with the challenge of exploring another new subject: the elemental, rugged yet beautiful Isle of Skye. |

Kate Boxer - "Hello, This is Caesar" We are very excited about our next exhibition: A solo show by Kate Boxer, to inlcude new series of original prints based on portraits. Figures portrayed in the exhibition include Alice B Toklas (see right), George Sand, and Caesar. Alice B Toklas said "After a while I murmured to Picasso that I liked his portrait of Gertrude Stein. Yes, he said, everybody says that she does not look like it but that does not make any difference, she will, he said." Other portrait subjects include: Gertrude Stein, Fassbinder, Gorky, Mary Queen of Scots, Myra Hess, Proust and in this Diamond Jubilee year, Queen Victoria riding on top of an elepant! George Melly once described Kate Boxer as "a remarkable creative spirit: her images and the means to realise them are at one." Kate Boxer uses a number of print techniques in her work including dry point, carborundum and chin colle as well as hand colouring. Her prints are exciting, vibrant and sometimes quirky, but always made with integrity and a high degree of skill. It is no wonder that they are much in demand. In the first half of 2012 alone she has to prepare works for four exhibitions in London and the South East, including a completely new body of work this exhibition at Zimmer Stewart Gallery: "Hello, This is Ceasar". |
