Our Summer of Art exhibition opens today and so does our garden, showing a bronze Garden Angel on an oak plinth by Christopher Marvell and a large wood fired garden urn with porcelain slips by Chris Lewis.
Futher down the garden is a second piece by Chris Lewis, a great sculptured Birdbath. In the gallery we has a selection of his bell-shaped jugs in various sizes.

This Summer we present in the garden, large Urns and other pieces by ceramic sculptor Chris Lewis.
Since graduating in 1975 he has worked at the pottery at South Heighton, established by Ursula Mommens in the 1950's. He spent 1978 travelling in West Africa studying traditional pottery making techniques. His work is influenced by tribal art and archaeology, in particular the unglazed wares found in archeological sites all over the world, including Neolithic China, south western United States, Susa in Iran and village pots made all over West Africa.

We are pleased that Phil Tyler will show his new Still Life paintings in our Summer of Art exhibition, starting on 4 June.
In the same genre as works by Samuel John Peploe and William Nicholson, Phil Tyler's contemporary Still Life paintings are a departure from his "Head" series and "Swimmers" shown last year, although there are some new ones of the latter as well to be seen.
"Still Life with Coffee Pot" by Peploe just broke the record for Scottish artists at an auction at Christies in London at £1 million.
