Owning Art & Collecting

"Obsessive is the word most commonly used to describe the collecting instinct. Compulsive, competitive, neurotic, exhibitionist and self-aggrandising are not far behind"

These are the first words in Owning Art - The Contemporary Art Collectors Handbook by Louisa Buck and Judith Greer.

It is a compelling and readable guide for all contemporary art buyers with chapters on a definition of contemporary art, the art market, caring for and insuring works.

Published in conjunction with Own Art and the Arts Council of England, we believe this is an indispensible book for many of our clients.

So, we plan to give FREE copies of Owning Art with every purchase over £200.00 during December.

For those who may want an alternative, we also have books on Peter Blake and Pallant House Gallery as part of this offer.

You can also see our guide to buying contemporary art here.

New Forest Paintings are here
Moorland, New Forest, oil on canvas by Katharine Le Hardy

We have just completed the hanging of Katharine Le Hardy's New Forest paintings and they look great!

A step forward from her previous exhibition and a new colour palette but these works are unmistakably "Katharine's". Her mark making and brushstokes, manifesting in slightly different ways in the large canvasses and small oils on board are recognisable as they are distinctive.

Locations include Rhinefield Ornamental Drive and Brockenhurst, both in the New Forest National Park.

The largest piece in the exhibition is a diptych called "Borrowed Light" 150 x 100 cm (see Home page). This shows her skill in representing light through the trees and on water.

Exhibition runs until 3 December.

Joze Art Fair - March 2012
Joze Art Fair at The Library Space, Battersea, March 2012

We are pleased to be taking part in the Joze Art Fair 2012 at the Library Space in Battersea from 8-11 March 2012.

Artists taking part have yet to be finalised, this will be announced in the New Year with further details.

The Library Space in on Battersea Park Road, London, SW11 4LY and is a former Edwardian library, the Edwin Tate Library founded in 1909. The space is now used to host a programme of contemporary art, music and fashion events.

Leaving the space in its original form, highlighting its previous life, The Library's aim is to provide a characterful alternative to the white walled space in which art is often viewed, to encourage the childlike thrill of exploration and discovery, of peering into dark nooks and finding intriguing things in unexpected places.
